I hereby humbly present the Subvein Notifier.
This little tool will sit in your tray and fetch the current player count on all registered servers in Subvein. You can set the update interval, the desired player amount and also set if to monitor the whole player count or the per server player count.
Once you start tracking, the notifier will silently monitor the servers. When your requirements are met, it will notify you in a sexy and stylish way (TrayTips) so you can start playing right away.

Instructions:
Access the menu by right-clicking its tray icon.

hahaha, all I can say is.. wow. Great stuff!

Only suggestion I can think of is to provide a checkbox so it checks for a number of players in the SAME server. 7 players online isn't that great when they're all spread out over different servers.

When i "Save" in settings and then open settings page again, i always see the same -

And not look like its save normal - any minute "Desired amount of players ready" even if 0 players in game.

Dude, if you could make this as an apple app I would buy it. Getting notifications and checking players and what not from my phone would be sick. Do it, and I'll love you forever.

I don't think this is necessarily possible without having some sort of server yourself, Chross, but if it was possible for this tool to have it's own chatbox or something so I could tell everyone we can all go on and play now. The biggest problem with Subvein is that everyone just waits for games to start, and therefor none actually do.

The only way I think you could do this for free is to integrate it with the IRC server or some other free chatbox/shoutbox.

writing a simple chat client is pretty basic, but i don't think that's something i'd like to see in this little program. i'd rather just have a "waiting to play" checkbox that keeps track of how many people are just waiting for more players. it'd have to auto-uncheck on idle, though, to make sure people who have it checked are actually there and waiting. i know i would check it and then forget and go someplace else.

How would that help though? You see 10 people waiting, you join a game, no one comes because there's only one guy on.

Might be a nice addition but I don't think I have the time to do this.
I am sure that a chat client will be helpful, but you can join a game instead while waiting. You'll be afk but who cares. The notifier will still work and notifiy when enough people are online. If you merely start the notifier, you do not encourage people to join the servers as well.
The point is to go online and join a server, maybe even as a spectator. Then use the notifier to inform you of player count.

I honestly think that there is no other way doing this.

Why would anyone wait outside the game? Whenever I want to play I just sit in mine or green's server and turn on sounds while minimized. When someone joins I hear a ding and I play, simple. The notifier is actually quite unnecessary for waiting, it should be used just to check how many people are playing when you are on the forums or doing anything else. Waiting for 5 people to be playing is almost selfish, but it is the internet I suppose. Such a small community makes it hard to always play for yourself.

During bad hours, simply being in a Subvein server takes a huge chunk of my bandwidth.

Well, then just don't use the notifier.
I like Subvein to be quiet when I am waiting (no sound when minimized), hence I can't tell if people join or not. Therefore I rely on this notifier, which works perfectly fine. Maybe Ben could implement this feature into Subvein itself, who knows?
Also, due to different time zones, I am online very often, when zero people are playing. Kind of annoys me, but I can't help it anyway. (GMT+1 fyi)

I haven't seen anyone playing after 12am or before 12pm GMT -7 in such a long time. Though it's 1:25am now and no one is on, odd.

If no one is in the server then the game makes no sound...

New version is out, added true saving (to ini file) for greater convenience.
SubveinNotifier.ini will be created in the same directory as the .exe file.

Not quite,
I simply used AutoHotkey and the standard compiler. 8-)


I noticed that the Notifier not always fetches the php file correctly. Couldn't sort it out yet.
